HEIC viewer – open HEIC files in your browser
See an iPhone photo on Windows, Android or a Chromebook without installing a codec. Nothing is uploaded.
or drop it here. The photo is decoded in this tab and never uploaded.
Viewing a HEIC file versus converting it
Sometimes you only need to see what is in the file: check which photo a colleague sent, read a receipt someone photographed, or confirm a picture is the right one before you attach it. Converting first means making a copy you may never use. This viewer decodes the photo straight onto the page, at its full resolution, so you can zoom into details.
If you do want a copy that opens anywhere, save it as JPG from here. For a whole folder of photos, the HEIC to JPG converter handles batches and gives you a ZIP. For screenshots or graphics where every pixel matters, HEIC to PNG is lossless.
How to open a HEIC file online
- Click Open a HEIC file or drag the .heic or .heif file onto the box above.
- Wait a moment while the photo is decoded. Large photos on older phones take a few seconds.
- Use Zoom to switch between fit-to-screen and actual size.
- Optionally choose Save as JPG or Save as PNG to keep a copy.
Other ways to open HEIC
Macs and iPhones open HEIC natively in Photos and Preview. Windows can open it in the Photos app once the HEVC Video Extensions are installed from the Microsoft Store. The full rundown for every platform is in how to open HEIC files on any device, and Windows specifics are in HEIC on Windows 10 and 11.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won't my computer open HEIC files?
HEIC photos are compressed with HEVC, a patent-licensed codec. Windows does not include the decoder by default and sells it as a separate extension, and many older apps never added support. This page carries its own decoder, so the photo opens in the browser without installing anything.
Is the photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and decoded inside this browser tab. Safari uses Apple's built-in decoder; other browsers use a WebAssembly build of libheif that runs on your machine. Nothing about the image is sent to a server.
Does it work on Windows 10 and 11?
Yes. Any current version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox on Windows can open a HEIC here, with or without Microsoft's HEVC extension installed.
Can I save the photo in another format?
Yes. Once it is open, Save as JPG gives you a file that opens everywhere, and Save as PNG keeps every pixel without further compression. To convert many photos at once, use the HEIC to JPG converter on the homepage instead.
Will it show Live Photos or burst shots?
It shows the main still image in the file. The motion part of a Live Photo is stored as a separate video file on the iPhone and is not part of the HEIC.
